CLIENT DESCRIPTION

Our client is a reputable innovative solution provider and machinery integrator servicing Canada, US and abroad. Well-known for being multi-talented and flexible, he is an industry leader in automation, building the highest quality machinery, conveyor systems and robotics. Expert in the food industry for the past 30 years, the organization specializes in fresh produce and bulk food material handling.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To support the growth and ongoing demand he’s currently experiencing, our client is looking for a new Mechanical Designer. This person will be responsible for the overall project details after sale is complete, including component selection, design and detailing of specific machinery, conveyors, etc. He will also:

  • Perform engineering calculations with respect to strength of materials, speeds, horsepower, temperature, pressure, force, etc.
  • Select appropriate purchased components for mechanical assemblies and create requisitions with appropriate delivery dates
  • Produce working and detailed drawings, as well as bills of materials for equipment, sub-assemblies, or product, using AutoCAD and SolidWorks
  • Determines tools, fixtures, and equipment to be used in fabrication and assembly of mechanical components and complete assemblies
  • Analyze designs and systems for compliance to applicable standards (OSHA, CSA or customer requirements)
  • Execute project management, including dealing first-hand with production and the customers
  • Assist in the conceptual phase of projects, working on concept designs, time study calculations, cost estimations, and present solutions to end users
  • Collaborate with Account Managers by developing projects during the sales phase to increase probability of closing orders
  • Assist the fabricators, machinists, toolmaker and electricians in the debug, in resolving integration problems and completion of systems
  • Perform Research and Development of new products/technologies based on current sales targets/initiatives

REQUIREMENTS

  • College degree in Mechanical Design, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum of 8 years’ Mechanical Design experience, in an Automation Environment
  • Proficient with AutoCAD and Solid Works
  • Capacity of designing from sketches or from verbal concepts
  • Direct experience in the bakery, food & beverage, or fresh produce industries
  • Good knowledge of equipment including, conveyors, high speed packaging machinery, palletizers, and bulk food material handling equipment
  • Automation knowledge and design experience (pneumatics, valves, servos, actuators, etc.)
  • Experience with robotics
  • Working knowledge of common machine shop techniques
  • Great communication and organizational skills
  • Solution-oriented individual and creative problem-solver
