CLIENT DESCRIPTION

Our client is a non-profit organization that positions itself as the main promoter of smart city principles. Working in collaboration with the different levels of government, its main objective is to improve citizens’ quality of life and security through a responsible use of technologies and data. Its efforts in research and vast network of external partners enable the organization to strengthen its capacities and reach its goals. Having more and more visibility in its area of ​​expertise, our client is now ready to move to a new stage in its development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

With significant growth over the past two years, the organization is currently looking for a new Executive Director. The person sought will report to the Board of Directors and will be responsible for the strategic planning of the company, while ensuring a proper administration and the development of its programs. Overseeing the funding strategies, the marketing and relationship with the community, the Executive Director will also have to:

Board Governance:

  • Lead the organization in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s goals and mission
  • Communicate effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary to make informed decisions

Financial Performance:

  • Lead and support, with the Business Development Officer, fundraising as well as developing a variety of channels of revenues necessary to support its mission
  • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of the organization
  • With the support of the Director of Operations, submit to the Board an annual budget and periodic financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization
  • Respect the approved budget while ensuring maximum resource utilization

Organization Mission and Strategy:

  • Lead Senior and general staff to ensure the organization’s mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning and community outreach
  • Along with its Directors, lead strategic planning initiatives to ensure that the organization can successfully fulfill its mission into the future.
  • Enhance the image or the organization by being active and visible in the community and working closely with civic and private organizations

Operations:

  • Oversee the implementation of resources to ensure the operations of the organization are feasible and successful
  • Along with the Director of Operations, participate to hiring of competent, qualified staff and ensure effective administration of the operations
  • Sign all notes, agreements, and other instruments on behalf of the organization

Other responsibilities:

  • Report to and work closely with the Board of Directors to seek their involvement in policy decisions and viability of the organization
  • Directly supervise the Directors (Applied Research Lab, Advisory Services, Operations and Business Development Officer)
  • Lead and guide Senior Staff through Strategic planning and implementation of Business Development Strategies
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson with the organization’s stakeholders and community partners
  • Establish and maintain relationships with external partners to strategically enhance the organization’s mission and vision
  • Engage in fundraising and developing revenues
  • Guide marketing and other communications efforts.
  • Oversee organization Board meetings

REQUIREMENTS

  • High sense of integrity and leadership
  • 5 years experience as Senior Manager or Director within the non-profit sector
  • Experience in working with a Board of Directors
  • High level strategic thinking and planning.
  • Ability to effectively communicate:
    • Strategic message and goals to staff, board, community, grantors, other stakeholders
    • The organization’s mission to community and business partners
  • Collaborative approach with members of the staff
  • A history of successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial results of a non-profit organization
  • Proven success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including funders and community partners
  • Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development and negotiation
  • Financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis and decision making
  • Perfectly bilingual written and spoken (English and French)
  • Strong public speaking ability
  • Strong work ethic
